Con-duiligh's Leaving the Highlands
When the Earl of Argyll seized Duart castle from the MacLeans in 1692, Clann Duiligh of Mull lost its main support and protection and the famous Rankin piping school closed in 1757. The last professional Rankin piper, Con-duiligh, left Scotland with his brother in 1820 and eventually settled in Prince Edward Island.

Lyrics
Con-duiligh stands at his cottage door
Surveys the hills he'll see no more
The lochs of Kilbrennan, Northumberland's shore
Con-duiligh's leaving the highlands

To the Isle of Mull his ancestors came
To play the pipes for the warring MacLeans
But no sword or target he'd carry to fame
And win the banner of Rankin

To follow the music and not the strife
The piper must march at the chieftain's side
But the battlefield now is silent
And the old ways they are changing
And Con-duiligh's leaving the highlands

Con-duiligh hears the ancient call
The dance of a secret waterfall
Where long ago the fingerlock tune
Was taught to him by the fairies

Con-duiligh sees the ancient path
Lost in the mist it lures him back
But the mountainside now is silent
And the New World it is calling
And Con-duiligh's leaving the highlands
