Northumberland Pride
In 1997, the Confederation Bridge linking Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick opened to the public, and life for our people was changed forever. This song is a tribute to the men and women of the Marine Atlantic ferry service. They kept Islanders connected to the rest of the world for more than a century. No more thunder on the rail deck. No more shepherd's pie.

Lyrics
I still don't know what progress is
Can anybody tell me?
Why certain deeds enslave the heart
And make the spirit empty?
Is it right to take a place
And join it with another
When deep is the Strait that lies between?

Chorus:

Sail away Northumberland pride
Take me home one last time
But don't leave my heart on the other side
Sail away Northumberland pride

A bridge of steel and concrete
For years we talked about it
In the barber shops and the corner stores
Some claimed we'd never build it
But I watched as every engineer
From Paris to Chicago
Put down those giant stepping stones

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:

Farewell is not goodbye
I can hear the seagulls cry
Sail away Northumberland pride

Repeat Chorus
End
