![]() ![]() My Great Uncle Heb Herbert Rankin was really my father's Uncle, but all us kids called him 'Uncle Heb' too. He had left the Island for the 'Boston States' as a young man and settled in Perth Amboy New Jersey. He made a small fortune in the lumber business. But each summer he and Aunt Isabel made their annual pilgrimage home to visit the relatives. I loved those summer visits. Uncle Heb talked with a funny accent, took us to the beach in his fancy car, and told us stories about a mysterious faraway land where everything it seemed was bigger and better. Listen to this song (You'll need an MP3 player to listen.) Lyrics Chorus: My great uncle Heb and Aunt Isabel Are coming from the Boston States With a Chrysler car and a stinky cigar And white shoes made from the skin of a snake Tell Aunt Mabel, put the food on the table Summertime can wait Because my Great Uncle Heb and Aunt Isabel Are coming from the Boston States It began each year with a Christmas card From Boston Massachussetts Where the buildings almost touch the sky And the American way is perfect It said Seasons Greetings to the relatives I hope this finds you well If you can't come here then we'll go there Ring out the Liberty bell Repeat Chorus Like Paul Revere on his midnight ride Uncle Heb made his escape Out of the city, away from the suburbs North on the Interstate No time to stop for coffee or gas Head straight for the borderline With a few more hours of steady driving Make the boat at Tormentime Repeat Chorus Twice End Players DEMO RECORDING Virtual Studios, May 1997 Vocal: Allan Rankin Production: Perry Williams Copyright Wild Garden Music (SOCAN) |
